Kwanele Mketeni is a poised and friendly 20-year-old singer-songwriter from King William’s Town. He’s an extreme radio enthusiast and uhm…a self-confessed gentleman. Hahaha!
WHAT’S YOUR LIFE STORY?
My biological mother died few weeks after giving birth to me. Which is how I got to be raised by a family of cousin’s to my maternal grandmother. The “koolies” wouldn’t fail saying I was ‘adopted’, but I wouldn’t put it that way. Like most South African kids, I never had any real relationship with my father. I saw him only 3 times and the 3rd time Dad was…dead..but it’s alright.
HOW WAS YOUR CHILDHOOD?
VERY happy! It still is – it isn’t over yet hahaha!
ARE YOU IN A RELATIONSHIP CURRENTLY?
Yes. Yes, I am. Although it needs strengthening hey. It’s a long distance relationship. See, it’s very far from heaven when you’re on earth.

IS THERE ANYONE ELSE YOU’RE IN A RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHER THAN GOD?
HAHAHA! What are you insinuating? That I’m a two-timer? Hahahaha! No. In case you haven’t noticed yet, I try my ultimate best to behave as though I’m on my mother watch at all times, thank you.
WHAT SORT OF MUSIC DO YOU MAKE?
Anything between R&B/Soul plus POP. I’m more versatile as a writer because I can pen down almost any genre. Mastering it all is still one idea I cherish.
WHAT MAKES YOU DIFFERENT FROM ALL OTHER MUSICIANS?
I’m authentic. I write sincerely from the heart. Tell stories which many can relate to. You can’t beat honesty man.
LOCALLY, WHO WOULD YOU LIKE TO WORK WITH?
There’s a fantastic rapper from Dimbaza – Inkunzi! He goes by the name of Number. He’s an AMAZING artist. I’d love to get in studio with him. And although I don’t know how this particular collaboration would come about, but working with Dumza Maswana would be one dream come true.
WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 5 YEARS?
In a happy place. Doing what I love which is radio and music. I really intend to have a beautiful life.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE DISH?
I’m a college student. I do a lot of grab and eat. But I love making umphokoqo to mix it up with noodles. It’s easy and yum.
WHAT ARE YOU READING AND LISTENING TO CURRENTLY?
Reading Robern Sharma – The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari and listening to Simphiwe Dana – Firebrand.
